Maintaining Connection While Incarcerated
A recent study shows that the use of technology within prisons can help to facilitate an easier reintegration by keeping inmates connected with their families, and helps to reduce trauma experienced.
We sat down with Dr Lukas Carey, one of the study authors and researcher from UNE, about the importance of lived experience when it comes to working with incarcerated people within the Australian criminal justice system.
Lukas explains that connection is vital for reducing trauma, and reintegrating incarcerated people.
“If you can reduce the trauma through ensuring that they still have access to their kids, you might actually be easing reintegration.”
