Practical Peace-building in Times of Conflict
The conflict between Palestine and Israel is old, and complex. With a history spanning nearly 80 years, this recent conflict in the region has decades of strife behind it. Over the years there has been many attempts at building peace between the two countries.
We sat down with Dr Marty Branagan, the convenor of Peace Studies here at UNE, to discuss what peace looks like, and what it takes to achieve peace after decades of conflict. Marty explains how different kinds of violence have ongoing impacts, and the role the media plays in reporting on conflict.
He says achieving peace will take a lot of work from both sides. “It takes good will, I think it takes people a great deal of energy to take a step back from the pain and hurt that is caused by this violence.”
