2023 is already shaping up to be another exciting year at Tune, as we launch our partnership with the UNE Media and Communications degree in Trimester One!
What we have on offer is a practical, skills-based learning experience at our student media hub, filled to the brim with professional development opportunities and backed by 53 years of experience in the media industry.
Choosing to undertake a special project with TuneFM will help you gain skills and develop materials for your professional portfolio.
Get your hands dirty with:
Digital and Social Media
Create weekly content for the TuneFM social media! You’ll be creating content for our Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok using constructive journalism techniques and with a special focus on science-related topics.
Writing
Refine your writing skills by penning blog posts and feature articles! There are even exciting potential publication opportunities with our student magazine, Altitude.
Audio Production
Research, write and produce top-of-the-hour news bulletins, newscasts and documentary-style podcasts.
Students wishing to participate must be eligible to enrol in HASS102- Special Project in Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. To view the course requirements and how to enrol, check out the unit listing in the UNE Course Handbook.

Why volunteer?
Traditionally, student volunteers have gotten the short end of the stick in the workplace, especially in creative media roles. However, at Tune we’re anything but traditional.
We believe in the unique talent of our students and know that to succeed people need support and opportunity, above all else.
We’re not interested in having students hanging around to go on coffee runs for us, but what we are interested in is developing job-ready professionals, with the skills and experience to pursue a career in their chosen field.
Volunteering with us could see you announcing on air, creating social media content, writing articles and even creating your own podcast.
What you do, and how well you do it, is largely up to you. Don’t get us wrong, we’ll be here to provide you with support and training the whole way, but at the end of the day we understand that you are the driver of your own success.
Customise your experience
When we say we’re student-powered, we mean it. Students are the heart and soul of TuneFM, so to repay the favour we’re more than happy to tailor your time with us so that it best aligns with your interests, goals and availability. If you’d love to sign-up but feel like there’s something standing in your way, reach out to us to chat and we’ll try our best to come up with a solution.
If you think volunteering could be for you, then make sure to apply ASAP. More time with us equals more learning and development which will be a major benefit to you when it comes time to apply for jobs. Before you know it, you’ll be crossing the stage at your graduation, and you’ll be glad for all the extra opportunities you sought while studying.
See you in the studio!
